Château Haut-Brion is a Left Bank Bordeaux from the stellar Haut-Brion First Growth. Located in Pessac-Léognan, Haut-Brion has the distinction of being the only property outside Médoc to be designated Premier Cru Classé in the 1855 Classification. It is also the oldest property in the Pessac region. Grapes are thought to have been grown on the estate since the Roman era, while the first recorded mention of the property was in 1423. Its wines were famously name-checked by Samuel Pepys in his eponymous Diaries. "Quite a surprise in a difficult vintage, a strict selection and the superb terroir of Haut-Brion triumphed over a very challenging year that produced many hard, relatively herbaceous wines. The colour is a surprisingly saturated deep plum/ruby. Some sweet berry fruit intermixed with menthol, graphite, damp earth and a hint of mushroom emerges in this medium -bodied, very elegant Haut-Brion that is still firmly structured but has sweet tannin and surprising length and ripeness. The wine will always represent a sleeper style." Robert Parker, 2003
